Build confidence. Strengthen foundations. Make maths feel manageable again.
Key Stage 3 is where many pupils begin to decide whether they are “good at maths” or not.
A few difficult topics, a drop in confidence or moving into a faster-paced class can quickly leave a pupil feeling as though they are falling behind. The good news is that, with the right support, these gaps can often be addressed before GCSE pressure begins.
I provide friendly, structured one-to-one maths tuition for pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9, helping them understand the maths they are learning at school while developing the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.

My aim isn't simply to help pupils complete tonight's homework.
I want them to understand why the maths works.
Sessions encourage pupils to explain their thinking, recognise patterns and develop strategies they can use when they meet new questions.
Over time, the goal is for pupils to become less dependent on support and increasingly confident in their own mathematical ability.

Every pupil is different, so tuition is tailored to their individual needs rather than following a fixed programme.
Sessions can help pupils to:
strengthen essential number and arithmetic skills
improve confidence with fractions, decimals and percentages
develop algebraic understanding
improve problem-solving and mathematical reasoning
revisit topics they have found difficult at school
fill gaps in knowledge from earlier years
keep up with a faster-moving class
prepare for end-of-year assessments
build the foundations needed for GCSE Maths
Where appropriate, I’ll also identify underlying misconceptions that may be holding a pupil back. Often, correcting one or two fundamental gaps can make a significant difference across several areas of maths.

It is very common for pupils who previously enjoyed maths to lose confidence during secondary school.
They may have moved into a more demanding class, struggled with a particular topic or simply started comparing themselves with other pupils.
One-to-one tuition gives them the opportunity to work at the right pace, ask questions without worrying about what anyone else thinks and experience success again.
Small improvements can make a big difference to how a pupil approaches maths in school.

Although formal GCSE preparation normally begins later, the foundations for GCSE Maths are built throughout Key Stage 3.
A secure understanding of areas such as:
number • fractions • percentages • ratio • algebra • graphs • geometry • probability
makes the transition into GCSE considerably easier.
For pupils approaching the end of Year 9, tuition can gradually begin introducing GCSE-style questions and expectations so that the move into Key Stage 4 feels much less daunting.
