Frequently Asked Questions
-
What ages do you teach?
I specialise in one-to-one tuition for:
GCSE Maths (Years 10 & 11)
A Level Maths (Years 12 & 13)
I do also tutor younger secondary school students.
Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, whether they need support building confidence, preparing for exams or aiming for the highest grades.
How long is each lesson?
Most lessons last 60 minutes, which provides enough time to introduce new concepts, practise questions and review progress.
Longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate, particularly for A Level students approaching examinations.
How often should lessons take place?
Most students have one lesson per week.
Additional sessions are often beneficial before mock exams or final examinations.
Do you set homework?
Homework is entirely optional.
Some students benefit from additional practice between lessons, while others prefer to focus on work set by school. We'll decide together what works best.
-
Do you tutor online?
Yes.
Online lessons are fully interactive using professional teaching software, allowing us to write, draw diagrams and solve questions together in real time.
Many students find online tuition every bit as effective as face-to-face lessons.
Do you offer home tuition?
Yes.
Home tuition is available within the local area around Shepton Mallet.
A mileage charge of 45p per mile applies for travel beyond a 5-mile radius.

Across the UK through online lessons

OCR
OCR MEI (A Level)
Can you help with homework?
Absolutely.
Lessons can reinforce school learning, support homework where appropriate and prepare students for upcoming assessments.
Can you help students aiming for top grades?
Yes.
Whether a student is working towards a Grade 4 at GCSE or aiming for an A* at A Level, lessons are personalised to help them achieve their individual goals.
What if my child has lost confidence?
This is one of the most common reasons parents contact me.
Many students don't struggle because they lack ability—they struggle because they've lost confidence.
Lessons are designed to rebuild that confidence through clear explanations, encouragement and carefully structured learning.
